Project Management Goals
Most of the companies (organisations) specialising in various markets (e.g., property, energy, construction, public relations, advertising, etc.) execute project works in their direct business activities. There are several versions of Project definition which arose due to different standards and organisations:
- Project – a temporary activity directed at achieving a unique goal (e.g., creation of a product, service or result), which has a set beginning and ending, and limited resources;
- Project – a one-time work with a goal that is expressed in quantitative and qualitative indicators and with a temporary organisational structure that is eliminated upon the completion of the project.
An ever growing number of such activities or works is executed with the assistance of information technologies – e-mail communications, sharing of available information, distribution of tasks and control of their execution.
Ever more frequently, a project team consists of employees working in different organisations, which may even be geographically distant. Therefore, project management becomes an important task in terms of both time and available resources.
Well organised project management is an important success factor for both large and small enterprises (organisations) engaged in various activities all around the world.
Continuous growth in information and works volumes and improvements in information technologies in modern enterprises and organisations contribute to the growing need for systems that would ensure effective transfer, storage, distribution and control of works and information both inside and outside of the enterprise at all project implementation stages: initiation, planning, execution, control, monitoring, and completion.
ERP Butterfly™ project management system complies with these and many other requirements. Butterfly™ was developed utilising the best Web medium communication features of the EMC Documentum eRoom platform. Project co-operation in the Web medium has become a highly appreciated activity implementation method among the employees involved in project implementation processes who seek to interact and co-ordinate tasks. Presently, co-ordination of project works involving distant workplaces presents a particularly big challenge to the processes of all types of activities.
